Review: Death Transit Tanager 01

(Hellboy + Metroid) X Anime = Death Transit Tanager

Tanager (Tan is a young woman with the ability to see and speak with the dead. Ray uses her ability as a Death Transit, a spiritual ferryman, traveling the galaxy to help lost souls so they can finally rest.

I Kickstarted this first issue last year. I backed Cover C because it was going to be full chrome (if you haven’t realized by now, I’m a sucker for 90s-style enhanced covers).

The first issue contains two stories. The first story is a fun, stand-alone tale in black and white. Tana helps an old asteroid miner find his body while dealing with hazardous terrain and fiercely monsters.

The second story is the first part of the origin of Tana, which is told in full color. We get a small glimpse into Tana’s life before becoming a Death Transit.

Both stories are quick reads. The first adventure is longer but features many pages with little or no text but tons of action. The second story, while shorter and unfinished, is cruncher and helps fill in the world more. I enjoyed both stories, which feature gorgeous art. I hope we get more of Tanager in the future. I will definitely be backing more issues in the future.
