The following is art preview of The Valiant #1 by Valiant Entertainment. Issue #1 will go on sale in December.
Not only am I a comic fan, but I also enjoy role-playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, and Deadlands. Coming this year is the first role-playing game based on the Valiant Universe, which I cannot wait for. Here is a rundown of their digital releases, most of them free.
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Storytellers: Matt Fraction (writer) and Michael Allred (artist)
The Baxter Building is returned and we witness Doom’s villainy, a he reveals to Alex Powers that he has his parents in his dungeon. In the lab of the Future Foundation, Ant Man and Dragon Man give Darla a gift, a set of rings that hold her Thing-suit inside and when tapped together, she can summon the suit onto her, allowing her the ability to have the suit at all times. The heroes go to confront the Inhumans about Medusa’s part in the Wizard’s plan, which turns into a knock-out, drag-out battle between Lady Medusa and the She-Hulk. In the end, Doom meets with Annihilus and Kang, who start to form an alliance.
Another good issue of FF. Even though I’m not a big fan of Mike Allred’s art, I actually love it in this series. This team is so quirky, that it works. I even like this series over the regular Fantastic Four title, even though they are both written by Matt Fraction. We start to see the beginning of the end, as the team-up that future Johnny told us defeated the original FF is coming together. I can’t wait to see if and/or how this title will interact with Fantastic Four!
I plan on reviewing the following collections in the near future. I may hold some of the reviews to coincided with the release of the movie based on the character or property. I actually didn’t plan this, it just happened! I’ve recently moved and brought, bought or pre-ordered several collections, and these are the ones that are left to read and review.
Dynamite Entertainment has released a 5 page preview of Miss Fury #1. This issue should be out this week and I’ll be reviewing it in the future. Enjoy the samples below!
Lionsgate has released a featurette for the Dredd movie that includes interviews with the filmmakers and with the creators of the Judge Dredd comic strip at 2000 AD. The three-and-one-half minute clip also contains glimpses of why this dystopian, post-apocalyptic Megacity saga received an “R” rating.
Dredd, which stars Karl Urban as the eponymous judge, jury, and executioner and Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson, was directed by Pete Travis and debuts nationwide in 3-D and 2-D on September 21st in North America (and Sept. 7th in the UK).
Pathfinder is a comic based on the popular tabletop role-playing game of the same name. Pathfinder, the game, is based on an older edition of Dungeons & Dragons, the granddaddy of all tabletop role-playing games, updated for a modern audience. Pathfinder is a fantasy-based, action comic with a group of adventuring heroes of different races and classes (professions/archetypes). Pathfinder is published by Dynamite Entertainment and will release on August 15th, 2012. It will retail for $3.99 and includes 40 pages with over 10 pages of character profiles and Pathfinder RPG game statistics, plus an EXCLUSIVE, removable, playable tactical map and poster. The comic is crafted by Jim Zub, the writer, and Andrew Huerta, the artist. Matteo Scalera, Lucio Parrillo, Dave Dorman, Erik Jones all provide covers in equal ratio. Pathfinder is rated Teen+. In the Pathfinder series, Valeros can only rely on his sword arm and his friends, the mysterious and beautiful sorcerer Seoni and silver tongued quick-witted elven rogue Merisiel, but nothing can prepare him for the dangers that lurk ahead. The scattered and chaotic goblin tribes of Varisia are changing, growing in power and unifying in ways no one has ever seen before. At the heart of this strange evolution is an ancient evil looking to establish itself anew.
Below is all four covers and the first 5 pages of Pathfinder #1…enjoy!

The new Battle Beasts series is a reboot of the old toy line from the 80’s. My friend LadyB shows off her collection here. This new incarnation of the series also has a Minimates mini-figure line.
The Battle Beasts are all anthropomorphized animals, who come to Earth and battle. This ashcan is an 8-page preview of the first issue of the new series. It follows three heroes: Vorin a ram, Gruntos a walrus and Merk a falcon as they battle several other ‘animal-men’. We learn that Vorin is looking for something called the Dread Weapons, which he hopes he can use to stop his people from fighting.
I thought the ashcan did its job, it kept me entertained and has me wanting more. I’ll be picking up the first issue and giving it a full review when it does.
